A Kenyérkereső a 11 éves Parvana-ról szól, aki arra teszi fel az életét, hogy biztonságot nyújtson a családjának és megmentse az apját. Parvana apja, Nurullah történelmet átszövő fantáziatörténeteket mesélt neki gyerekkorában, amikor a lány segített neki a piacon a talibánok irányítása alatt álló Kabulban, 2001-ben. Amikor az apját letartóztatják, Parvana az egyetlen, aki elég bátor ahhoz, hogy akkor is a keresse a férfit, amikor mindenki más már feladta a reményt.
